The historic artist community of Dunmoochin founded by Clifton Pugh in 1951, is one of only three artist colonies established in Victoria in the last century, alongside Montsalvat and Heide. Nestled within a diverse and vibrant landscape, Dunmoochin has long been a place where artists, inspired by their surroundings, have created works that have significantly shaped Australia’s cultural history. Renowned for its connection to some of Australia’s most celebrated artists, such as Pugh, Fred Williams and Mirka Mora, artist residencies continue to foster creativity. Today painters, sculptors, musicians, writers, book/printmakers ceramicists and botanical enthusiasts call Dunmoochin home. Artists : John Quirk and Louise McLennan, Joshua de Gruchy and recent residents will present their art over the Open Studio Weekends offering insights into their creative processes developed through their connection with the inspiring Dunmoochin environment.
